IKEA Bed Frame gone Rogue!

Our homemade balcony bar made from IKEA bed parts

I always try to sell things before I get rid of them, just to have some pocket money, and to have a (probably false) sense of paying less for the item originally. I really could not sell this plain, white IKEA bed frame no matter which platform I used. It was pretty beat up, very squeaky, and honestly I wouldn't have bought it either. I had the price as low as $30 and no one would take it. So we had a box full of wood, essentially.

I also have a list of furniture and items that we currently want for the apartment. With a little creativity, a trip to Home Depot, and blood, sweat, and tears, I could get rid of the useless bed frame and trade it for some kitchen shelving as well as a balcony bar table!

For a stack of shelves, I was looking at $100 brand new. For the balcony bar table, $150 brand new. Not too bad, but I'm a very resourceful person and I thought it would be a fun project and would be cool to share with you!

Balcony Bar
Sumedh working hard with limited tools

We can't really have an electric saw when we live in a high rise...so we were left with hand tools, like a hammer, screwdrivers, and handsaw, but we also had an electric drill. We did purchase wood for the legs of the table, which were like 80 cents each, and we also purchased screws.

The result is fantastic! I purchased some secondhand stools for $15 to complete the function and look.

Shelves

I took more of the leftover wood from that ladder thing that is SO annoying. With a little handsaw and some fancy footwork (you read that right), I put together some shelves as well! We needed more pantry space as we are currently using the linen closet to store foods. I've gotten very spoiled with an apartment kitchen, but it doesn't stop me from wanting MORE! I purchased brackets and screws to mount the shelves.
